According to Barrett's system of organizing photographs this image would be placed in the ethically evaluative category. This environmental portrait comments on the woman's place in society. Her retreat to a bathroom, her partial nakedness, position on the floor and hunched over posture, all reinforce the feeling of her isolation, vulnerability and pain. The camera angle indicates a sense of compassion on the part of the photographer. The viewer is not to look down on her, but should see her as an equal. The coolness of the magenta/purple color reinforces the idea that this woman exists in an environment void of human warmth.
